General Information

Duties

The Statistical Office in Olsztyn operates on the basis of:

  • the Act of 29 June 1995 on Public Statistics (Journal of Laws of 2026, item 851),
  • Order No. 16 of the President of Statistics Poland of 8 November 2012 on the Statute of the Statistical Office in Olsztyn (Official Gazette of Statistics Poland of 2012, item 50, as amended),
  • the Organisational Regulations of the Office, introduced by Order No. 1 of the Director of the Statistical Office in Olsztyn of 4 January 2016.

Tasks of the Statistical Office in Olsztyn:

  • transforming administrative data sets into statistical data sets,
  • collecting data, including from public administration information systems, compiling, processing and analysing statistical data,
  • carrying out tasks resulting from the statistical research programme of public statistics and the methodological work plan,
  • conducting and implementing censuses and other large scale surveys in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship,
  • participating in work on the methodology of statistical surveys concerning Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship,
  • identifying and analysing the demand for statistical information and analyses in territorial breakdowns in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, and designing methods and forms of meeting that demand,
  • providing and disseminating statistical information concerning Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship,
  • conducting research and analyses relevant to the specific characteristics of the Voivodship, including in cooperation with research and scientific units,
  • providing information support to local government units and advisory and expert bodies cooperating with local governments,
  • carrying out tasks in the field of popularisation and promotion of statistics and dissemination of statistical knowledge, including statistical education Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship,
  • participating in work for the purposes of regional statistics publications,
  • presenting statistical information concerning Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship to government administration bodies, local government bodies and other users,
  • conducting research, analytical and publishing activities in the field of cross border and euroregional statistics in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship, in cooperation with the Centre for Cross Border Area Research and Euroregional Statistics of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów,
  • maintaining the national official register of national economy entities (REGON) in respect of legal persons, organisational units without legal personality, and natural persons conducting economic activity, as well as making data from the REGON register available,
  • maintaining and making available data from the national official register of the territorial division of the country (TERYT) in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship, in the part covering the system of statistical regions and census districts, and the system of address identification of streets, properties, buildings and dwellings (together with the street catalogue),
  • maintaining spatial address databases in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship for the purposes of creating spatial sampling frames in specialised GIS software, based on data from the national official register of the territorial division of the country (TERYT) and statistical registers,
  • cooperating with government administration bodies and local government bodies in the Voivodship which maintain official registers and public administration information systems, in the area of providing source information for updating the registers and survey frames,
  • conducting joint surveys with government or local administration bodies, included at their request in the statistical research programme of public statistics,
  • administering the IT infrastructure of the public statistics services located in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship.

The Office specialises in carrying out national tasks on behalf of public statistics as a whole, cooperating with the relevant departments of Statistics Poland and other statistical offices in the following areas:

  • demography and population migration,
  • social statistics,
  • agricultural statistics,
  • rural area statistics,
  • milk and dairy product production surveys,
  • design and programming work.
